Man, those exhaust valves are WHITE.

running on the lean side soon enough a fmu with a wideban will be going in once i button it up before it cruises again. Im suprised nothing is broken or cracked Ive ran this motor hard

Some rusty sledge in the water jackets. Been running straight water?

yep thru the summer once its back together ill give it a good flush and a 50/50 refill. its getting a fmu and a wideband o2 to monitor for now then MSII shortly

looks pretty good for running lean on boost and having spark knocked quite a bit.

so i take it that wasnt the cracked head?

I havent had the time to pull the other head. Im suprised there are no cracked heads. hopefully new gaskets and ill be good to go. It had fel pro stuff inside so someone had tore into this motor before. I bought this motor last spring for 300$ out of a 92 with unknown miles

found my problem well after losing more and more water i tore it down its just a bad HG the heads were fine. The HG was mostly intact it just had a hailine crack from the water jacket at the back of #6. Now to clean it up and get it back together with a fmu. For now Im keepin gthe boost turned down until i get a AEM UEGO and a MS II jacked in.

you know, i had wondered about your "cracked heads" and was wondering if it was that or just a blown head gasket..but you sounded so sure that i kept my mouth shut.

time for head studs! :icon_thumby:

be glad you didn't do what i did last month.
it woulda been nice if it had been a HG.
i put a 1" crack down the cylinder wall.

well lets say I was expecting the worse so far Im suprised as this is the first time Ive pulled 4.0 heads to see them intact

Wow!

Be sure to have that cylinder honed to get all the rust out of it.

At least you have a nice pond back there to throw it all in if you need to. Most of us pitch parts out in the yard and have to look at them.

Im just renting the place and thats no pond thats just a cove to one big ass lake. Im only renting it until this spring (its there summer home) but its a nice little 2 story home with quiet a bit of waterfront with 4 docks and the launch. Not my boat thou there is a paddle boat that we use to crusie the lake however. As for that cylinder ill just use a scotch pad on it. I hone industrial parts at work when theres an area that needs a little work i have to use a scotch brite pad
