Gears really seem to be a personal preference more than anything; some people can deal with a sluggish guttless ride while others demand that their truck haul @ss with 35s just as good or better than it did stock. Either way, if you have the $$ for gears then it would be a wise investment.
Depending on what your stock gears are, I think if you have a 5speed then you should be "alright" with up to a 32 or 33.
On my truck for a while i ran the 3liter on 33s with 3.73 gear ratio and it was no rock crawler but was ok for a DD. Truck had a 5speed though which helped a lot
