31x10.5x15 on 15x8 wheel?

Hi, i am putting a 3in body lift on my 89 ranger. And i want to put 31x10.5x15 tires on it. Will 31x10.5x15 mount on a 15x8 wheel?

Thanks. okay because i asked a parts store and the guy said he wouldn't recommend it. and that i should get a 15x10 in wheel. why wouldn't he recommend it?

Because he has no clue what he's talking about.

I wouldn't even bother telling this guy that Rangers come stock with 31x10.5's on 15x7's which, if my math is right, is even narrower than the 15x8's he doesn't recommend.

To recommend a 10" wide wheel for a tire only 1/2" wider is absurd.

Yup I had 30x9.50 on 15x8s and I know plenty of people running 33 and 35x12.50 on them too.

I'm assuming he doesn't really know what he's talking about or maybe that's just his preference. I've ran a 31x10.50 on both setups.. 8"wheel is whats recommended for that width, just take a look at any tire manufacturers recommendations. the 10" spreads the tire too wide making it look bulged and just not right in my opinion. the 10" will also put extra strain on wheel bearings and other associated parts. I wouldn't recommend a 15x10 unless your tire is 11.50" or wider. Heck my tires are 13.50wide and my wheel is only 9".

Is a 31x10.5 a pretty wide tire? i mean is it going to look good on my truck and be good in the mud?

Here's a photo of my mistake with the wide wheel. Great stance but ugly bulging tires.

Oh and to your question about how it'll preform in the mud, that all depends on the tire you choose for the most part

ohhh i understand now. in that picture do you have any wheel spacers on it? how did you get your tires to stick out past your bumper like that?

the tires sticking out is a side effect of a 10" wide rim and the offset to put them under a stock ranger, i have run 31's on a 10" 8" and 7" wide wheels, all work, but i usually like to keep my rule of thumb about 3' narrower on the rim will give u the ability to airdown offroad and maintain a proper bead

No spacers. just the 10" wheel. but if you want that stance i'd say either
- get GOOD wheel spacers(the kind with new wheel studs), 8"wide wheel and 31x10.50s
OR
-10"wide wheel, and atleast a 31x11.50 but be warned the wider wheel will add stress to bearings.

either way make sure you have enough lift for the size tire you select

okayy cool. do you know if 31x10.5 tires with 15x8 wheels will turn and clear my fenders with a 3in body lift? and do you know what would be a good body lift for me? and is there anything else i can do to lift my truck without spending the money for a suspension lift?

Someone with a similar year ranger as yours will be able to help you better as will a forum search. also go check out the suspension section, i think there is a photo thread of different lifts and tire sizes.

But i helped put a performance accessories body lift on a buddies old '92 ranger and he ran 32x11.50s on 15x8s and had minor rubbing at full lock.

okayy thanks. and one more thing. at what tire size should i be worried about the gears? and what are good gears to get?
