what heads can i put on a 68 302? i was wondering if the gt40 heads would fit on any year of 302. if not what would be a good way to go. the motor is stock. i would like to put a cam in it also. the engine is in an 84 ranger. i would like all my internal parts to work with each other i just dont kknow what to use. because i no you can throw a cam in it and a bunch of other crap and they dont work with each other then you just have an expensive parts engine i dont want that i want it to go, if anyone could give me a run down of what would make it go fast and efficiently that'd be great. mainly heads, intake, carb, and cam. rockers etc. its backed with a c4 trans with a shift kit and an 8.8 rear end.

I would think so. I've seen GT40 heads in all sorts of combos. There are other options for cheap aluminum heads too.

aluminum heads would be nice whats a cheap pair of those run ?

damn that isnt bad at all i might just by a set of aluminum heads. anybody got a good setup for a 302 wich rockers, carb, etc to use. its a stock 302 right now i just wanna now what you guys are doin to them, some pointers or whatever. its got a 750 edelbrock on it now which is way to big i no, would a 600 cfm do well im not trying to get 500 hrp i just want a good streetable engine that i can go burn the tires and then drive it to work. let me no what ya think

750 is too big, I'd look at a 670 holley or smaller. The thunder series edelbrocks are okay. As well as carter avs carbs. Need to use a carb calculator and figure out how many cubs, and how much rpm your gonna do to get it right. I had a 388 cub motor going to 6300 rpm and I think it was 720cfm area.

Here's a good combo: Explorer motor, add 1.7 full roller rockers, top it with a high rise dual plane intake, a 570 Holley and add headers and a free flowing exhaust.

how about this one i was driving home from the bar last night i wasnt hot roddin it to much just a little and i started hearing a lifter tick a little bit and as i got closer and closer to home it got louder and louder. it sounds like its on the passenger side near the firewall. do i need to rebuild or could i just see if it has came loose a little?

Could be any number of things. Like a loose rocker arm (not too bad to fix), spun rod bearing (time to rebuild), leaking exhaust gasket (easy fix), loose spark plug (really easy to fix)

Agree. I have had an exhaust leak from those crappy bolts that come with headers these days backing off. Causes a tick like noise that can get louder as the bolts rattle out on a drive from one place to another. A small amount of blue lock tite could help if thats what it is.

i tightened all the bolts on the exhaust manifolds. its still making the noise and its getting louder and my oil pressure has dropped it doesnt really go over 20 when im driving. time to rebuild?

also it doesnt do it all the time usually after it warms up or if i drive a few miles down the road then itll start getting louder and louder.

I don't think you are doing it any favors waiting for it to fix itself...

With the noises you are hearing, and low oil pressure, I would say your motor is very tired. I agree with baddad, find a explorer motor put your intake and a free flowing exhaust. I'm assuming you have a aluminum intake already. A smaller carb would be of much better use than what you have. You've already stated that though.

Just my .02,

Pete

Might be a cam lobe and lifter going south too. With what you've posted here, it's time to dig into the motor and find out exactly what the problem is. As 85_ranger said it's not going to fix itself.
