Probably the cleanest swap would be a '98-01 Explorer setup with an M5OD-R2 from a '97-03 F150 with a 4.2L and if it has a manual transfer case grab that as it's the narrowest of the bolt on transfer cases to those and while there grab the front and rear drivelines, will likely have to shorten the rear but the front might be close, I know on the V8 Explorers you grab a front driveline out of a 4.6L Expedition and the rear driveline out of a 5.4L Expedition (shortest of both) and they bolt in with just a conversion U joint in the front shaft at the axle but don't know about Rangers...
