D30 could use help. hopefully it stands up. i see jeeps getting beat all day w/ d30s i dont see how a little light wheeling and 33's could kill em that easy. i just wanna not get stuck on the road in snow and be able to drive rough gravel roads when the s10's back off!

hmm, I like your idea for mounting the leaf springs. I may go that route when I get around to throwing these D60s I've got under my Bronco II. What do you plan on doing for a bumper?

stock till i get around to making one. no plans yet.

all of the D30 vs D35 and D44 and crap aside. Real world EXP. the D30 isnt horrible. It suits the needs of your average wheeler/Weekend warrior. I wheeled the piss out of mine Open w/ 4.10s and never broke it on full tread 33" M/T's. Locked it... broke it once in washington which was my bad because i was wheeling with the passenger side unlocked. 100% force on the driver shaft.

Then when I moved to new mexico, got a doubler, 35" MT/R's. Sheered a passenger inner shaft off at the splines, mind you this was rock crawling... those were my only shaft failures... the only other failure i had was breaking the R&P. I just wheeled it till it completely started stripping/skipping gears. Mind you, this was with 100:1, moderatly sticky 35" tires and new mexico sticky rock terrain. trails, rock gardens and hopping it up ledges like this:

Bottom line. Stop worrying and trying to justify. It will work fine for you.

thats what i say. people try and talk me down and tell me its too weak. the way i look at it is, its way better than what i had "nothing" because it was a 2wheel! lol

How did you weld to the cast iron for that axle truss?

I would like to reinforce mine but have never welded cast before. All I have is a tombstone.

I'm told you have to heat cast iron up before you can weld to it.

its casted steal. ive read to heat it to 500 degrees then mig welds like regular steal. i didnt have access to a digital thermometer so i just heated it with propane torch and it welded good.
