My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
TRS 2026 Fall Colors Campout !

Location;
We are moving this event to the New River Gorge area near Fayetteville, WV.
This should be a picturesque and interesting area to visit with some unique things to see and do.

Dates; Oct. 8-11. see the poll above. Last year, some didn't attend because the dates interfered with Overland Expo East in Arrington, VA. The expo, this year is the weekend of October 23-25. So, earlier October weekends should be acceptable for our event. I chose Thursday thru Sunday blocks. But you can come earlier or stay later if you want. Depending on which weekend we choose, I may do closer to a weeklong stay, personally. Currently, My vote is for the 3rd weekend mentioned above. That is due to availability at the campground mentioned below. But I can change my mind easily to accommodate the group.

Camping;
Rifrafters Campground; 304-574-1065

See post #43, below for more info - Military discount, campground map, etc.

Activity planning will be announced later. A scenic drive like last fall should be easy to plan. There is a coal mine tour available not too far away. I know of another surprise I might be able to arrange. and I'm sure there are plenty of historic sites. I'm just beginning to research it. But, you know I'll dig up some fun stuff. I will also entertain requests.

I'm open for first set of dates and the third set, but I voted for the third set.

As far as the availability, my guess is that the sites don't open up for reservation until 120 days out. Maybe it's their solution to people complaining that they couldn't get a reservation because everything was already booked so far in advance?

I’ll have to check my schedule…

I'll already be off the second with pay. Great time to go do something. IF I make it, Brittney might come with.

Put me as tentative. not sure what will happen with my job after June 30th, and will need to get David's school/ fall break schedule. Also need to get a certain 1997 Ranger up and running.

This sounds pretty awesome, and would be a good way to test out my transmission rebuild. I'm looking for a truck bed tent, too. Call me solidly tentative. 🤪 Late October seems right for maximum foliage coloration, so my vote would be 15th-18th.

Be sure to add your vote to the poll up above.

Curious Hound does outstanding work on planning a trip. The trip to Cass last year was great as well as other trips he has had his hands in in the past.

I'll vote 8-11th. With dad gone the trip will not longer be competing with hunting season, so better chance I'll make it this year. That's a holiday weekend for us and I'll be off work on the 12th, making the driving easier and a day to unpack and relax before return to work.

Unfortunately I'm still not sure I'd be making it in a Ranger. The '99 will need some work before its up for a journey like that, and I'm not too confident it is going to happen this year (or next). Maybe borrow dad's 02 from mom, but more likely be in the F-150.

I voted 8-11 because it works best for me personally. The reason it works best for me could also mess it up for this event. It is a federal holiday, federal employees (and likely others) will be off work that Monday, and a lot of them will probably take Friday before with it. That could make the camping and destinations fairly crowded that weekend.

Being the FNG at work, I got last bid on vacation. No one put in for October. So, I should be good for any of the dates. I still prefer the first or third weekend, if the consensus goes that way. I'm just trying to work around volunteer hours with the Sportsman's Club.

Just a bump check! Any progression?

Curious Hound has had health problems lately.

As this is primarily his trip, I'm guessing further organization is on hold till further notice.
