You can get them cheaper than that. I got $4,000 off sticker for mine.
unless you’re talking actual price and we’re talking MSRP, which are two completely different things.
And there's no sense comparing two trucks that are clearly marketed for different purposes. There's nothing inherently wrong with unit body construction. It's just not really appropriate for a work truck. But for a vehicle that spends most of its time hauling people and lighter loads, it could be perfect. I don't like the styling of the Maverick, but it would meet my practical needs just fine.
Sure, I don't disagree with any of that at all. It still needs to be built appropriately for use as a light truck, regardless of what frame (or drive) orientation it uses. The problem with unit body construction is they usually base it off a FWD car so it comes with a bunch of car-grade parts.
Unit body construction would be ok for a truck if it was intended to be a truck from the onset.
The old Commanche was a pretty good truck and it was unibody.
I like the idea of a Compact pick-up Trucklet. Since every other mid-sized truck is aimed at the 4wd/off-rodding community, it will be nice to see some "city" trucks again. But Ford will probably ruin this with the AWD off road features that are already NOT working on the Bronco Sport. Reports say the BS is having overheating transmissions in off-roading scenarios. But that wont stop them (ford) from loading them up with equipment and overpricing them the to Dummies who think every truck needs a lift kit and 33" tires.
The only reports I've noticed were from two journalists early on. One didn't have the heavier cooling system on the vehicle, and the other admitted to driving 'like a freaking idiot'. Doesn't sound like a significant issue to me?But Ford will probably ruin this with the AWD off road features that are already NOT working on the Bronco Sport. Wages have not kept up with inflation either... which is probably a lot of what causes the "why are new vehicles so darn expensive!" reactions.
Frankly I am about down to just finding a clean solid low mile Supercrew with a blown engine or trans and piecing one truck together with parts from my rusty trusty old Supercab.
The Maverick is a neat idea... the styling is rather hideous IMO though. As far as cheaper... a Ranger isn't much cheaper than a '250, I don't see it being that much cheaper than a Ranger.
BUT if they can keep this one out of the dirt, and use it for what they said they built it for, would they even have this issue? The only reports I've noticed were from two journalists early on. Yeah that's part of it. Although wage growth varies depending on the skill/knowledge level. The people that earn enough to buy new vehicles are more likely to have incomes that have kept up with, or outpaced inflation. People that have incomes that have not kept up probably aren't buying new vehicles anyway:
For a daily driver I lean more towards a reliable appliance these days. However, I'm team "keep what I've got" or "Build what I want" for anything that I intend to have fun with. Not really interested in anything newer than maybe 05ish unless my situation really changes.
