some one is giving me a great deal on a taurus engine the year is 2007 v6 3.0 .. i have a 1994 ranger v6 3.0 i heard somewhere that you can swap the taurus engine into the ranger but didnt say what years i was wondering if its possible to change the taurus engine into my ranger with swapping intake manifold ?? and what else ?? is this even possible ? please in need of advice i did research and came up with nothing

Which taurus is this? The regular old tuarus (originally came out in the 80s) with a duratech 30 3.0L V-6? Or is it the Ford 500 (now rebadged as Taurus) which is a completly different car that also came with the duratech 30, and later on (I think only 08s) with a duratech 35.

As for putting either engine in your ranger; well, anything is possible with enough time and money. However, In my opinion, the duratech 30 would be a waste of time. If I remember correctly, it is like 210 HP and 190 Ft*lbs. And you really have to spin it to see those HP. A ranger 4.0L (especially the SOHC) would probably feel much stronger. The duratech 35 (which I doubt is what you have) Is a brand new engine (just came out last year) and with it's 270 HP / 270 torque with a wide torque band would definatly motivate a ranger quite well. However, a D35 has probably never been put in a ranger yet. They haven't been given a chance to accumulate in the junk yards.

Since both engines are designed to be used in front wheel drive vehicles, finding a transmission to use is going to be hard. Keep in mind that the D30 is not related to the vulcan 3.0 in your ranger. Also since both the duratechs are DOHC, the engines are fairly large for there displacement and probably wont fit very well in a ranger, especially a pre 98 with TIB/TTB.

So at the very least, your probably going to have to figure out some transmission to use, swap a lot of electronics (I think 2007's are EEC-VI, as opposed to your ranger's EEC-IV), fabricate custom exhaust manifolds set up for RWD, and do a lot of rearranging of other components in the ranger's engine compartment to fit the bigger size motor in.

The only taurus engine that will slide right into a ranger would be the old vulcan 3.0L used in tauruses through like 97 or 98. Then it is the same engine as in the ranger. 2007 is definately going to be one of the duratechs.

ic what you are saying so basically the only engine i would be able to slide in would be 97-98 taurus 3.0 vulcan with out major modifications

sucks i have to let the 2007 engine go 7,000 miles and $250 bucks for it :(

im a little confused as to whats going on here. there was no 07 taurus, production of that car stopped in '05 and started again this year ('08). the vulcan 3.0 was the base engine in the taurus all the way up to the '05 year...the new '08's only have the 3.5 duratec option.

the five-hundred never got the vulcan.

07's were fleet vehicle only. We got one from the dealer that my dad knows. It has a 3.0 Vulcan in it.

If it has a vulcan, it can be made to fit..there are some differences...94 was the last year for the dist. ignition. you would have to set if up for ECC-V, unless you just used the block (Head gaskets have to be changed...cooling path is different on the FWD and RWD engines).

BTW...after working on a few duratec 30's and 35's I refuse to work on another. The vulcan is a better engine if you don't need power....Easier to work on, much more reliable.

Probably more that you ever wanted to know about Tauruses:

i wasnt awair you could still get the taurus as a fleet vehicle...that explains that.

if this car hes looking at is a vulcan, then the best bet by far is to swap the long blocks. otherwise you'd have to swap in all the harnesses and modules from the '07 to make everything work properly...no fun. the '07 motor can easily be made to run on the EEC-IV and dizzy in the 94.

with as many duratec 3.0 and 3.5's that are out there, we've had suprising few come in for work. the duratec design, IMO, actually seems to be very reliable. and the 3.5 is an amazing motor....265HP v-6 with variable valve timing; sweeet.

I don't like having to drop the motor to change an alt. It just semed alot more difficult to do basic maintenace on compared to the Vulcan.

I am also a bit biased...After my Mazda b2200, I want nothing to do with the engines they design. I was also raised with Tauruses...explaining my love of the Vulcan.:icon_twisted:

i agree they are very tight to work on, but then what modern vehicle...particularly a DOHC..isnt?

but yes, im also biased toward the vulcan, so often underestimated due to noone knowing how to drive them.

thanks for all the help you guys have given me ... how can i identify a vulcan 3.0 engine because im new to working on fords and dont have a clue how to identify them

the vulcan is an OHV engine, so it has smaller valve covers and heads than the DOHC duratec. it should also say "3.0 V6" on the valve cover. the duratec also has a cam-driven water pump on the back side of the left (forward) head.

So it actually takes a head-gasket change for the 3.0 to go from transverse-FWD to longitudinal-RWD, due to coolant path? I'd read some BS years ago that it only involved some oil-return path plugs, which could be accessed by simply pulling the valve (rocker arm) covers.

Anyway, the Vulcan seems to be a block/engine that can live a long service life with basic maintenance.

i got a taurus 3.0 in my 94 ranger. i had to switch oil pump pick up tube, oil pan, the harmonic balancer, water pump, distributor, mounts, and rotate the valve covers, along with the lower intake. but there is a sensor on the right side of the block that the ranger doesn't use. it works.

hey i recently got a taurus motor and it has no oil pressure i changed everything u changed except the distributor can that do anything to the oil pick up ??
