Does the starter have to come out? The bellhousing has a large notch near the starter. This would be a first for me if the starter stays in, always had to pull them in the past.
The throwout bearing is making lots of noise, clutch action is quite flakely. Over 205,xxx on the factory parts, guess it's 'bout due for some maintenance.

Can somebody send some warm weather to Ohio? Laying on the driveway in 25 degrees isn't as fun as it used to be.

Yes, starter must come out. The starter bolts are threaded into the trans. The trans bolts are threaded into the engine, and there is still that plate between them. You always have to take the starter off.

Can't help with the temps. But we have all done it. I did 3 clutch jobs in 2 years in 10* or less, got freezer burn on my back twice during those jobs, and did two more clutched in 10 or less.

My first clutch ever was done on a Geo Storm in January in my grandparent's garage between the hours of 11 PM and 3AM. They were out of town and we couldn't figure out how to spark the heater. Have fun.

Also, I'd also do all the clutch hydraulics at 205K. If you don't do the slave now you will do it in less than a month. At 205 if you don't do the master with the slave you will probably do it in less than a year. IME if you don't bleed the whole system out of the truck before putting it together you will never get it bled correctly. That's why I try to do them as a set.

Thanks. The slave is part of the NAPA kit, I'll get the master too.
That notch I saw is where it narrows down at the top. I'm usually working on V6 engines that have wider bellhousings near the top.
