Sorry dude. This is not a good idea and here are a few reasons why.

No filtration - abrasive dust and dirt is getting sucked right into your engine.

Hot air - you are sucking hot engine compartment air in. Better performance if you route your intake to suck in cold air from behind the headlight or between inner and outer fender like the factory intake did.

MAF - where is your Mass Airflow Sensor? The computer needs that to make the engine run properly. The MAF and the diameter of the piece it mounts in are tuned and calibrated so that the computer knows how much air is entering the engine.

Yea and within about 10 minutes half the seals on the engine are gonna start leaking.

I THINK the OP has some foam behind the white plastic piece, so there's some amount of filtration going on.. so that's good.

Everything else is bad though, unfortunately.

OP.. read a little about intake air temperatures, their effect on timing, and timings effect on power. Also read up on intake air velocity.

He did mention some foam. But what size particle does it filter out? I really doubt that it has anywhere near the efficiency needed to protect the internals of the engine. It's better than nothing.

I wasn't trying to belittle him in any way. Merely offering some positive educational value instead of saying "it's bad" without giving a reason why. I've had lots of people over the years tell me I had a bad idea, but not tell me why it's bad. I think that is insulting and counterproductive. I have far more respect for the people who taught why my ideas were bad.
 
OK well here's why it's bad...

there is no MAF sensor so it can't run right. It'll just get stuck in open loop forever if it even runs at all. That's just fundamental to fuel injection operation. If it can't read the incoming air the computer cannot set the fuel trims.

The cover blocks 50% of the air flow.

The air flow is now coming off the radiator so what little air it has its extremely hot.

You've reduced the surface area of the filter by about 100 times so it is either blocking air flow even further or not filtering even close to enough.

The PCV system is gone so in all probability the engine will start puking oil from every seal soon as it now has way more crankcase pressure even with the vent filter.

I'm not even sure it'll run let alone drive very well or far like that.

To be belittling wasn't my intention either, my bad If I came across that way. I'm still "hungover" from a real crappy weekend, probably a bit grumpy.

My suggestions to read up on IAT's, timing, and intake air velocity were serious ones. I've tried explaining the relation between 2 of those things to another member on here whos a big fan of "cold air intakes" and got nothing but a lot of pushback and my presentation of truth in automotive science got denied. Nothing more aggravating than presenting facts and them getting dismissed.

In all honesty, it is kinda cool, in concept and execution. But unfortunately, it's just not practical for the many valid reasons that have been pointed out.

To be fair here, I can look back and laugh now, at some of the stuff I did with my own cars back when I was a pup. And I bet that most of us have done things with our wheels, that later turned into "WTF was I thinking?".

To the OP, welcome to the site, and don't take the responses the wrong way. Your modification looks cool, it just won't work as cool as it looks.
