Hi guys I'm new here. Been lurking for a while. I am planning on lowering my 2001 XLT supercab 3.0. It is an everyday driver. But I have decided to go with a 4/5 drop. As the research shows better overall ride. I'll be using my stock wheels and tires first to see how it handles. They are the stock 15 with 225/70 tires. First question what is the stock width and offset? I am leaning on going with 17's because as an everyday ride I do not want a super low profile tire. We have big driveway bumps around here in Myrtle Beach! Here's my thoughts I'm looking for all opinions. 17x8 wheels with 20mm offset with 235/50 rubber. Have at it! The more I look at wheels and tires the more confused I become:)

i would go with 18's and you could run a 225/40/18 and be fine..here is the wheels ive been looking at eagle alloys 225 series

Those are nice wheels. I had Eagle Alloys on my 97 GMC a few years ago. I am not sure I want to go with a 40 series tire for every day driving. Would a 225 or 245/45 18 fit with no rubbing? What offset? Come on guys I know there are more than 1 of you who have done this.

The stock offset is +12, if you go 4/5 you need to keep your front tires around 25" tall I have 245/45/17 which is about 25.6" and I never rub

streets around here are crap and i had 40 series with no problem they rode fine.

Hey guys I just finished up my DJM 4/5 drop. I had to take off the mudflaps. I was scraping the drivers side pretty good. No fat jokes please:):) What is it with Ford that they put holes in everything. When you want clean and stripped you have a hole left in sheet metal. I put the plastic buttons back for now. I'll just paint them with touch-up paint. I'm getting it aligned tomorrow, so I haven't really driven it too far yet. From the little I did drive it I can tell the stock tires are just a tad too tall. I get some rubbing in the front. I also put in new steering end links while I was doing it. Plus I bought the eccentrics for the upper control arms. The job took me about 12 hrs taking my time over a few days after and before work by myself. The wife and son are out of town for a week, so I needed something to keep me busy:) Now I'll be looking for wheels and tires. I am going to be going with 18's You guys pretty much talked me into it:) I still think I can fit 225/45's in the front, but might go with 225/40's. I am also thinking of going with staggard fitment 18x8 front with the mentioned tires and 18x 9.5 in the rear with 245/45's what do you guys thing about staggard fitments? and what size tires would you go with? any questions you guys may have about this install let me know. I'll help

a 245/40 in the front should be just fine
