Hello i was just wondering if i could get new glass for a truck that is 23 years old? Or do i have to get used glass from another Ranger? My windshield isn't cracked but it fogs badly and has some stains i can't get rid off from sitting outside for long years. I tried glass stripper and it helped a little but my glass definitely needs restoration or replacement.
Anyone know any DIY tricks to restore glass? Or a good glass restoration shop near 91710 area. Is there a way to put a protective layer on the glass again. It seems to lack the protective barrier it once had if that makes sense. It fogs easily were i can't see out of it in the morning. And it's not winter time yet. Im concerned i won't be able to see in the morning when winter comes.

To strip any funky stuff, I use the cheapest "Tub & Tile" cleaner I can find, dollar store stuff, as far as any treatment goes. 3% Oxalic acid. Works.

I have good luck with a turtle wax product called "Express shine" 100% pure Carnauba wax. Spray & buff, like guitar wax. Same thing. Works great to fill scratches & repel water. Try it on anything plastic, glass, glossy surfaces. A film on the inside that keeps coming back may be a heater core leak!

New glass is still being made.

Who makes the new glass? Or what manufacturer is making new glass? I am surprised to hear that new glass is being made. Is it a small little shop some were far away? Or a major or large manufacturer? Wondering if i can purchase from them directly? Is it regular glass? Or like bullet proof glass? Lol

Just call your local auto glass shop, Safelite autoglass did my 2011 a year or so ago.

I think i did that already but i couldn't get a hold of a human being to talk 2. Without making an appointment. or scheduling an appointment. I could try again.

How much was it to replace the windshield?

I recently bought the truck and just spent alot of money on wheels and tires and a new radiator and had to fix an exhaust leak. So my money is starting to dwindle down. Is the glass the same or different in the 2011?
I also got to get some major body work done or frame repair if needed. Thank God for credit cards lol Part of me wants to sell this truck Cause it costing more then expected. It's alot all at once but i do like the truck. I might fix it up then turn around and sell it.
Its v8 swapped CA legal so i think it would go quickly if i decide to part ways with it in the future

Anyone know about glass in general? Windshields in general? I am wondering about layers of the glass. Wondering if i could restore my glass or would it be cheaper to just replace the glass?

New glass being made isn't surprising the more you think about it, ford made millions of rangers... so it's only natural that there's a sizable market for replacement windows. I'd wager that even as far out as 25 years from now there will still be new glass available.

Your best bet is to just call your local glass-n-go type place. A buddy of mine had a local company come and replace the windshield in his ranger last year and it ran him a little over 300$.

just call whichever glass place is nearest to you. i think it was 99 or 1.49 to change the windshield on mine a year or two ago. and of course, a week after doing that, it got hit by a rock and cracked.

but they will still make glass for your truck for a very long time. the ranger was probably the most popular mid sized truck made back in its time so still lots left on the road.

and its going to be way cheaper to replace than try to finish sand to an acceptable smoothness that would pass a safety inspection, i would think. we do windows on aircraft but they are not actually glass so its easy to get marks and scratches out of them with soapy water and super fine sand paper

I called a local glass shop and was quoted 220$ for a windshield replacement for the glass without the logo on it. Is there a quality difference between the logo and non logo glass? I didn't get a price for the logo glass. Mine currently does not have a logo on it so i won't miss it. So OEE glass vs OEM glass for my ranger. I don't care about the logo but i do care about the quality.

I would ask if the logo glass is an OEM part made by Ford. Sometimes that is the case - non-logo is just aftermarket. SOMETIMES, but not always, OEM glass is better quality.

$220 is very reasonable for a new windshield. I think I paid over $300 for the windshield in my wife's '95 last year and that was the cheapest place in town.

FYI there is virtually no reason to try and reuse windshields. Sides & back, sure, those are usually pretty easy to get out but most front glass is glued in and will almost certainly break when you remove it. Vehicles from the early 80's and older were nice because they had a rubber gasket instead of glue and installing the glass in that was very easy with a piece of rope and some soapy water.

I got a new Windshield and i went with OEM glass Not OEE. I got a Ford Carlite Windshield and it is a lot nicer in quality then the previous windshield witch was OEE i believe.

I also got some of that new ceramic clear tint that blocks out the heat. They were supposed to do clear tint on my side windows but put 20% by mistake.
So im going to drive it like that for awhile and if its to dark for me then they will switch to clear ceramic tint for free.
All together with the tint and the new windshield i payed 850$ So Windshield OEM was like 500 and then the windshield tint was 250 then it was 150 for my side windows to be tinted or the driver and passenger door windows.

I will have to replace the back window as well because somebody used a grinder and grinder sparks hit the window and pitted it. Luckily you can still see out of it so i don't have to replace it immediately.

But will the regular window fit without the slider? Or do i have to install a slider window in the xlt. My truck is a ext cab or double cab xlt. The regular windows cost much less then the slider window. But man is this truck costing me. I feel like i am being nickle and dimmed with cosmetic issues.

Thanks for all of your replys and all your help

Both windows are the same size and attach the same way. So you can install a solid window instead of a slider window if you want.
