My credo
Nothing is so difficult it cannot be overcome by brute force and ignorance =8-)
Okay, I spent too much time trying to find a thread on this so now I'm asking .

My ABS light is on and I have replaced the sensors and cleaned the tone wheels, still no joy .

What is next ? .

I found the 'ABS Module' rebuilt exchange but that's nearly $200 so I'd like to make sure before I $pend that much .

TIA,

Short of checking wiring, the module is rhe only thing left that I can think of. You could troubleshoot the wiring and make sure there isn't an issue there.

Do you have access to a decent obd2 scanner? I don't know about the Ranger but some cars have data PIDs for wheel speed sensors. (I would optimistically guess the Ranger does too considering it does have ABS). That should give you some useful data too and point you in the right direction.

THANK YOU ! .

Yes, I have access to a basic Harbor Fright OBSII reader, it shows no codes and the wiring like the rest of this truck is near pristine .

Dang ! I don't want to $pend that $ .

You'd be surprised what can hide inside of wiring or connectors that look pristine ;)

I'm assuming you don't see any codes because your basic scanner, like mine, can't talk to the ABS. Don't know anyone in your area with a more advanced scanner? I have no idea which stores in the USA might do a full code scan for free or if such a thing even exists.

What I'm suggesting is that if you had a scanner than can read the data from the sensors, and you drive it 50 feet (or even just lift a wheel and spin it) you should be able to tell a lot from what data you get back, which corner to look at more carefully etc. Or, alternatively, if the module is offline, then you know you might either have a bad module or bad wiring to the module itself.

THANK YOU for not dismissing me and my issues as so many do because my little basic Farm/Fleet truck isn't fancy nor a macho 4X4
:sneaky: .

If you'd seen the innards of this little gem (? did I ever mention how much I LOVE this thing ?) you'd understand about the wiring etc. ,

I have unplugged the front wheel sensors, the connections are bright and shiny thanx to the well designed Ford connectors .

It's been 100* F here the last few days so I'm in no hurry to dig int it just now, I'm way out in the Mojave Desert in it and the AC is great =8-) .

How about the rear sensors, wiring and connectors?

Stay cool!

Mine's a fleet truck too and I would have preferred the 4cyl manual but this is what popped up and I snagged it. I'm hoping it becomes a meme because I'm super cheap and drive like a granny but all I wanted was good fuel economy. :)

Back when I first bought this truck I removed and cleaned the rear sensor, there's only one, it runs off a tone wheel on the ring gear .

That got the light off for a week or so, recently I bought a new rear ABS sensor, removed the derby cover and drained then cleaned the sump in the banjo really well .

The filler plug comes with an embedded magnet, it had very find SWARF on it so I cleaned it HOSPITAL CLEAN, buttoned it up and re filled with gear oil light didn't even flicker .

Being I was a Farm Boy I always liked basic and sturdy tools that were never more than necessary to get the job done .

Ford kinda cheaped out using tin foil for the entire body but the rest of Ranger's is incredibly well designed and built .
