Hey guys I’m new here but I’m having an issue with a 2000 4x4 4.0 ranger I just purchased.
While driving it home engine lights came on and it started running horribly. Spitting and sputtering loss of power. Almost sounded like it had a 2-step. CODES I got were P1132, P1151, P0172, and P1000.
i did the basic.. change fuel filter added seafoam, cleaned MAF sensor and IAT sensor. And that didn’t do anything. I pulled spark plugs they looked normal but I replaced them with auto lite app103s, replaced wires, and coil. I also changed out the IAC valve, and ECT sensor. Still didn’t fix anything. So I changed all three O2 sensors, and noticed previous owner removed the cats. Changing the O2s did nothing as well.

I then checked fuel pressure on the test port and I’m at 69psi which is right there.

i hooked up scanner and started to look into the live data a bit. I noticed my fuel trims are all messed up. STFT BANK 1 is at -23.3 LTFT BANK 1 is at -25 STFT BANK 2 is at 42.2 and LTFT BANK 2 is at 23.4 at idle. When you rev to 2000rpmthe long term fuel trims get a littl bit closer to zero. I sprayed brake clean around intake to check for vacuum leaks and didn’t notice anything.
I’m in need of help where to go from here. Intake gaskets leaking? Possible injector stuck open or clogged? Bad ECU?
Any advice will help TIA

Cleaning the MAF may not have been enough. What values are you getting from it when you use the scanner?

Hey Buch, welcome to TRS. I'm just a floor sweep here but there are many very knowledgeable folks who can help walk you through most anything. Good luck with getting it sorted :)

I would have changed all the items you changed first as well. My next thought might be an issue with the CPS. It is a pain to get to and even more so to replace. I would also have another person with me as I made sure all the connectors to the sensors are plugged in tight. I overlooked the ECT wire once.

So I decided to see how much a MAF sensor costs and I noticed the sensor that’s on the truck is different than what it calls for on the napa website. Did some research and found that the previous owner put a MAF from a 02 SOHC motor on it. So I ordered one for a 2000 OHV and I’m hoping that solves the issues tokorrow

Though probably not humorous, I was going to ask if this is an OHV or OHC 4.0l 🏈...but you answered my question in your last post.

@Buchheim92 ,
Since you have a 2000 OHV 4.0l...I thought that I had read this but wanted to double check first. This quote is strait from "therangerstation.com" Tech Page:

"For the later model 1995-up 4.0 OHV, the larger 65mm MAF from the 4.0 SOHC works great."

Unless there is an actual fault with your 02 SOHC MAF, based on our tech page suggestion, it should be an improvement, not the source of your symptom.

I’m going to find out today

Update I changed upper and lower intake gaskets and cleaned injectors in a injector cleaner machine and I also noticed the two upstream O2 sensors were plugged in on the opposite sides that they needed to be on and truck is running ten times better

I bet those O2 sensors being plugged in wrong were causing all kinds of havoc. Not saying they were the prime reason for your troubles but a reason. Stuff adds up. It sounds like you may have gotten the bulk of the issues, if not all of them.
