I acquired an 87 2.9 which had been sitting. Replaced FP relay, in tank pump (in rear tank) and main pump. Key on, both pumps run, Engine will run for a second then die and further cranking gives me nothing. When I depress the Schrader valve on the fuel rail, I get lots of air along with aerated fuel, figured air in system. been bleeding it off and on for 2 days, still getting air in rail. pulled line to regulator, no fuel leaking out. I'm probably gonna replace the reg anyway. I let it sit for a minute and crank, fires for a sec then nothing. I thought maybe I'm bleeding off air from when I had the lines disconnected to main pump and transfer switch, but seems it should have cleared up by now. Ideas?

Sounds like a leak in the fuel pick up after the low pressure in tank pump.

I'll also guess the tank is pretty low on fuel.

All new pick up, but could be an issue. I've added several gallons of fuel, will pull pick up and look. Thanks for the reply

Are you sure that you put the lines back on to the correct ports at the transfer switch, might be sucking air from the other tank or the rear tank return line.

Or maybe at the tank end.

Does your black fuel resivior have a filter in it too?

Being an 87 its unlikely but some early 87's did.

Figure out the problem?
I think its the doohicky that has lines from both tanks going into it, right before the pump. Both pre and main pump are working. I plan on running lines from the rear tank to the main pump and skip everything in between the pump and rear tank. If that fixes it, I will plumb it properly and add a filter. I stopped working on it for now as I had to move it out of the shop to make room for other stuff
