I guess mine is doing pretty good. I get about 9 and it runs like crap. I think if i replace the Valve Guide seals it will do alot better.

All they do is keep oil from the valvetrain from creeping down into the combustion chamber. They will keep it from smoking at startup and that is about it.

mine leaks about a quart of oil every 150 miles or so....haven't quite narrowed down from where yet....been too cold to really check
i just notice that when throttle is applied (raising the oil pressure)....oil drips from the front crossmember pretty steadily

other than the duraspark....its stock

i've been getting a steady 16 mpgs for about 3 weeks now all city mileage

3.45 gears with 30" tires

Could be coming from anywhere snug the pan bolts and valve cover bolts mine wal leaking pretty good out the valleys between the heads and block under the intake. you can clean it good then take some rtv and squish it in the cracks good so it hardens on the inside like a plug and the fuel pump gasket could be bad thats a bitch to get at. The timing cover seal gets old and hard also if ur good you can change it just by pulling the damper pully. My biggest leak was the intake manifold and valve seals and holds oil pretty good now since I did the duraspark and resealed the upper end.

mine goes through about 1/2 a quart of oil every 300-400 miles needs valve guide seals, and driver-side valve cover leaks just enough to notice. Now as far as M.P.G.s my fuel gauge don't work but i figure on the safe side at 13 mpg's and reset trip Odom every time and just keep track. I have never ran out and I'm guessing my actual mpg is some where between 15-18 mostly in town off-road, and limited highway, accelerates to 85-90 easily but takes a bit. I do this every couple months to clear the carbon. I was told 158000 miles on it but i just dont know that came from an unreliable souce( guy i bought it from) but i swear it runs like it only has 58000 miles on a 27 year old engine, wich is quite possible since it was an old farm truck if you look at the right angle you can see the shadows from the stickers Blank Blank ranch, cant really read first two words. It still has the feedback system but has been hard wired to run.

When I did the valve guide seals not one of them were even touching the valves and they just fell apart in my hands when I pulled them off. I was amazed on how long the plugs woud last with that much oil getting sucked into the cylinders and the dipstick no longer gets the white sludge like it used to. A new PCV can actually keep up with the blowby. I adjusted the valve lash cold twice and it still barely ticks at startup for a few seconds. I used to hate starting it at the store I used to get alot of dirty looks from the cloud it would leave.

When mine was leaking a qt. every 200 miles there was so much crud on the engine I couldn't even tell where it was coming from. I pulled the engine and put an entire gasket kit including the valve seals. I just didn't put the head gaskets on. Then I cleaned it up and painted it an slapped it back in. When I did all that I fixed all my vaccuum leaks. Didn't rebuild it just gasketed it at 320,000 miles.

Mine does the same thing. I usually leave a spot the size of a baseball on the ground when i park it for an hour or so. Plus I blow huge clouds of smoke sometimes. I think you can get to all of the bolts on the pan if you pull the starter. Next time i change my oil I'm going to try and change the oil pan seal. Someone told me you had to pull the engine to do it but we'll see.:dunno:

One spot that oil leaks past is the fuel pump. My dads did it non stop with a normal gasket. But when I put mine on with gasket maker/dressing, it has yet to leak (and it use to before the engine went into my truck). Mine losses a quart of oil ever 2000 miles I wanna say, thats running the original valve stems on an engine that has 190,000+ miles. As for lifter tick, it has become something that I have come to love. Dont want to pull the valve covers off, dont want them leaking on me.

Hmmm, mine doesn't leak oil. But it leaks coolant and every once in awhile it leaks a lot of tranny fluid :icon_rofl:

Mines got a leaking tranny too. I think it's the slve cylider going out
