I have a 1994 Mazda B2300 with 175,000 miles on it. It still runs and drives alright but I burn through about 2 quarts of oil between 3,000 mile oil changes and this last oil change my oil was very black, thin as water, and smelled like gas so obviously I'm getting gas in my oil.
I've done a couple of swaps on Hondas before but never a Ford. Anyway my question is what would I need to swap a 1999 2.5l into my 1994 truck?
I'd like to keep it OBDI since the engine I found on Craigslist is only a long block with no accessories and I'd like to avoid as much rewiring as possible, not that I couldn't do it just would rather not. I assume all I need to do is swap my accessories from my 2.3 to the 2.5 and maybe the cam to bypass the cam sensor. Any advise you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

The crank sensor is different and you have to adapt the 94 sensor to the 99 engine block.Or you can swap all the harness, sensors over, not to bad if you have a donor truck right there.Intakes are different, fuel system is different with the 94 having a return line to the tank and the 99 system has the return in the tank and only uses one line. The bracket that holds the alt/coil pack is different and while it can be changed over, the 99 head does not have the correct holes in it.The cam sensor is on the oil pump housing so just changing the cam will not delete ite or allow it to work.It is not just a bolt in deal,it can be done,a few guys on here have done it and I have done it twice with the race truck.Maybe some of them will chime in and tell you how they done it.

Alright thanks for some help. It is just a long block, Block and head no manifolds and no accessories, so switching wiring from the truck isn't available unless i get it from the junkyard. I may buy it anyway, its only $100, and take a look at it to see in person what all will need to be done.

Could take the crank, rods and pistons out of the 2.5 and put in your 94 and have a nice little motor.

True story^^

However if youre gonna do that you might as well bore the block to clean it up, and get new pistons and rings. Also while its apart a bit of head shaving will significantly help the engines efficiency.

thanks for the replies. 4b316 I was thinking about doing that if I couldn't just rebuild the 2.5 and put it in. Mikel89us I am planning on it if I do stick with the 2.3 since it needs to be rebuilt anyway. Probably do a port and polish while I'm at it.
I guess the reason I wanted the 2.5 is cause it is cheap and this is my only vehicle so It would be best if I could rebuild that while still driving with the 2.3 then swap over a weekend. Might get the 2.5 this weekend and try to find another 2.3 also haven't decided yet.
