1993 Splash in SC

Just came a crossed this looking for ideas as im trying to make my sliders. I have a very similar truck. Black 95 Std cab step side with a skyjacker lift. I’ll be curious to see how they turn out. Looks good so far.

Passenger side is almost finished. Rivets are drilled out of body mount and parking brake cable bracket on driver side. I don't want to take the bed off for access on driver side. How is the fuel tank mounted? I removed the skid plate. I can see 3 bolts holding the tank. 1 at the rear and 2 above the drive shaft. I can't seem to locate anything within reach over by the frame rail. What's up there? All I really need is to put some blocks under the tank and slide it over toward the drive shaft while I work. I don't really need to drop it.

Here is how I used the tubing notcher to cut saddles.

On mine one end of one strap has a "T" shaped end that sits in a slot on a crossmember.

Yeah the tank straps will be in slots in the frame, and you kind of have to move the tank out of the way to get the straps to lift/rotate enough to come out.

Thanks, both of you.. That gives me the confidence to put some blocks under the tank, remove the bolts and see if I can slide it over a couple inches. There's only 1/4 tank of fuel in it.

Looks like I should have the sliders finished by the 13th when I want to go to Gulches. They just won't have any paint to hide the ugly welds.

Borrowed a brake from a coworker so I could bend some brackets. I need to get one of these.

Passed the load test.

In case any new people are wondering if 1 person can lift the bed for access to fuel tank, springbhangars, shocks, etc. Remove all but the rear bed bolts. Loosen the rear bolts as far as you can. Go to one side, lift bed and put a block in. Then the other side. Then add another or bigger block on first side.just walk it up a step at a time and make sure you have the blocks in a good position.

Got all the holes drilled in the frame on the driver side and all the major pieces of the slider are tacked together. Now i just have to finish welding. I’ll do that Friday. The event I wanted to attend this weekend will probably be rained out. So I’ll paint the sliders on Saturday. That way I can bolt everything together one last time and hopefully never have to mess with them again.

I like the saddle idea on the sliders. I never would have thought to do that.
My rear driveshaft is in opposite the direction yours is . Is that how Ford put them in the rcsb trucks? I guess I wanted the boot out of harms way.

That's how it was when I got the truck. The other end has the double cardan u-joint assembly. I have always seen those installed at the transmission end of the shaft.

Finished the welding today.

Incorporated the parking brake cable bracket on the front driver side mounting bracket.

And, last weekend, I found some expanded metal in a scrap bin and had an idea. A grippy spot to step on. Wish there was more of it.

Tomorrow, I paint them.

I've wanted to get out in the garage today... it's just to dang cold. At least it made it to double digits.

I really want to do something like this to my truck... I kinda need them to have a step for momma. I was going to take off my tube steps until she said she wouldn't be able t get in it. I may try something like you did but turn them around so the outside tube is lower then the inside tube... she is pretty short. Then again I may just buy some sliders... the price of steel around here is ridiculous!

Aha! I wasn't even thinking about that as I don't have the double cardan shaft. I actually used the long half of a 2 piece driveshaft from a super cab when the time came. Interestingly enough, I don't have any vibrations or binding. Sliders look awesome. I like the expanded treads.
