How do I remove the cylinder for 1990 Ranger.

Thiere is no little "button". I have the column cover removed, I have the wire unpluged .. but I cant see how to release the cylinder lock.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Ive read a few places to take off the steering wheel. But not sure about that.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

IIRC key in and turned to on. Use a small screwdriver or allen key and poke the hole from the underside of the column.

I know on the F-150/250s around that year(late 1980's) steering wheel had to come off, but I thought Ranger just had the hole under the cylinder, no external button, just a hole you needed to insert screwdriver into, while key was in and turned to RUN

Thanks, Ron, I should have specified RUN.

I am not 100% sure about the gen2 Rangers, but I know on the gen 1 the key cylinder is held in by a breakaway bolt that has to be drilled out.

The F-series is an incredible PITA, to the point that I started doing the actuator rod on my dads 250 about 8 years ago and I am still not done.

I'm not sure about that, my '85 has a pin that gets depressed in run. The switch has bolts with breakaway heads.

Huh, that is odd because my switch has security torx and my lock has a break away bolt.

I'll look at it tomorrow, I have to dig into my column to look at something for a harness I am building anyway, but I am pretty sure that mine has a bolt in that pin hole.

I know my switch has the security torx because the first time I needed to take it off for something it was like 8:30 on a Saturday night and I was pissing and moaning about that because my security set was at work and I couldn't get in the building that late at night.

Thanks Andyb ... There was a pin but not as easy to find as the one shown in your pic.

I will post for all the other 1990 S reg cab folks. HOWEVER ...

Any of the replacements need to be modified. The electrical connected is about 3 or 4 inches too short. Ill take a pic of that too. This includes the Motorcraft replacement. I initially figured I could steal a little from the harness. But its is a 1" bundle of wires and I dont want to risk cutting something.

I scored NIB replacement side view mirrors. Paid $30 bucks for those. Exact fit. Did plugs cap and wires and tranny fluid yesterday.

Got brake parts on the way .. Ill do that total rebuild .. then this puff is road worthy.
Runs good for a $600 vehicle
