1985 ranger 2.8 carb problems

hi i have a 1985 ranger with 2.8 i just changed the moter in it and now when i go to start it spits gas out the top of the carb it and dont suck any in any help?:icon_confused:

First off I would go with the duraspark setup, if you already havent and get rid of the factory feedback computer setup.
 
Recheck yout timing.. You may have it 180* out of time..

I had the same issue until I realized that I had mistakenly installed the fuel line on the drain/overflow line....yeah it dont like that one bit...I blame that on the beer!
 
+1 on the timing first a easy way to find out put the timing light on one plug wire at a time until you see the timing mark. Trace that wire back to the cap and use that post for #1 and going clockwise set the firing order 1-4-2-5-3-6 and if it runs good you can leave it like that or you can do it like the book says find TDC on the compression stroke of #1 cyl and set the rotor around 11 oclock or #1 on the cap get the engine up to temp and lock the dizzy down at 10 dbtdc. All ways check the timing after you tighten the dizzy down for giggles. And yea dont hook the fuel line on the vent tube for the float bowl that was just funny.
