Hi I recently purchased a 1948 Ford F1 truck sitting on I believe a mid 80’s possibly 1986 Ranger frame. The 48 truck body glove box VIN plate is missing so I am trying to locate the Ranger frame VIN number to try to get the truck licensed here in Canada. Any help in finding where to search would be appreciated, the truck is using a 302 motor and unfortunately the woman I bought it from knew nothing really about it as it was her husbands project truck and he has passed away.

The f150's were on the passenger side on top of the frame, behind the front tire right where the frame starts going up to the front suspension. Not sure on the rangers but it would be a good place to start looking. Since they are stamped by hand on the line, they can be faint and hard to see. And it will only be the last few sequential numbers as it went down the line, usually not the full VIN.

Thankyou I will have a look, I think I will end up having a number assigned on this but the more information the easier it will be Thankyou

Did you find the vin on the frame? I also have an '86 Bronco 2 that I am trying to get registered.

I have never seen a VIN stamped on a Ranger/B2/Explorer frame. Lower left corner of windshield frame and on the driver door data tag are the only places I'm aware of. @honda34dad are you missing both of those?

Have the lower left of window VIN. Replaced the door due to damage. Bought the vehicle with a bill of sale and trying to get registered in my name and for that I need two forms of VIN. The front window/dash VIN and one more.

Do you still have the door?

Only other option might be the build sheet under the passenger side carpet if it's still there. Not sure what to tell you... there are plenty of vehicles out there that only have the VIN number in one location. My rule of thumb is anything that doesn't have a title is a lost cause.

Unfortunately in my case with the Ranger I only have the chassis and it is under my 1948 Ford F1 body, odd that there isn’t more identifying marks like most of the 60’s fords there are numerous places to match numbers etc

I built a homemade trailer mostly framed with differing layers of 1 1/2 X 1/8" angle iron. I signed up to get it registered and titled.

I was goofing around the house around 8 AM and here comes the Highway Patrol up the drive. I grabbed my boots and took off out the front door to the sound of him hammering the hell out of the tongue of that trailer

When I got there I saw he had a stamp set and was driving a serial number into the top of one of the front rails.

He told me even if someone ground it off smooth the numbers could still be read with some type of acid

You might try to find that acid and see if it works on your chassis

Yes indeed; the things that you can see on acid are quite amazing.
