05 Edge V8 Swap

Good, excellent progress guys! Sure hope you make a detailed write up that can be "stickied" up in the tech section, your's is the newest project I believe. Sure there will be a lot more to follow in your footsteps.

I am going to do one but I will need Pete's help on the wiring part.

The truck has been returned to it's rightful owner. I left my digital camera at the shop. I'll post more pics when I get back there.

There are some differences in the wiring for some sensors not directly attached to the Explorer harness. When I get to work I'll fill in the details. I'm on my iPhone right now and don't have the wiring diagrams here.

The state of IN does not require an emissions testing. :yahoo::headbang:

I have actually already located a donor 96 2wd Exploder for $750. allnpt0 is going to helping me out with this. He has done several V8 Rangers. I am really excited about this. :headbang:

Indiana does emissions testing but its only in Lake or Porter County every where else your good

Can't wait to see this sucker up and running!

He's had it back since 04/10. It runs great compared to the 3.slow. The Torque Monster headers make that thing sound awesome. Honestly I'm suprised Hoosier1104 hasn't commented here about the 5.0 since it's done. What are your thoughts Justin?

IT IS FUNKING AWESOME! I am so glad I did it. I stopped by my father's place yesterday and he absolutely loves it. I have the last couple parts to finish it up sitting in the garage to fix the speedo/cruise issue. Next up is to slide the 3.73 LS under it so I get descent gas mileage.

The next step after that is more hp. Nothing to terribly wild just enough to grab your attention and say 'Holy shit! What the hell is under the hood of this thing?!?!'

lets see some finished pictures!

The last 2 are during the install. I have not had a good chance to go actually take pics. I will be doing a write up on this as well for Jim.

I got a sine wave to square wave converter. I still have to put it in but that is coming shortly. The signaling issue can also be corrected by using a GEM module from a older Ranger.

The donor was a 96. I could not find a 4.6 in my price range for this swap.

Is there a How To . On the Gem module ? I'd like to see pictures of how you do yours .

No worries. There is a write up coming shortly once it is complete.

For everyone following this thread here is the latest on the truck:

Last weekend I was going to swap out the rear axle for the donor vehicles but I had something come up that made it financially hard to do the swap. :annoyed: So it is on the schedule for the 11th of June. The donor axle is a 8.8 w/ ls 3. 73's. I am still getting use to the additional power due I do not drive it everyday. It is nice to be able to get down the road as fast I want now and not have to really wait to get up to speed.

Stay tuned for pics.

yes. I can't wait to see the new pics of the truck!
