well i let my uncle barrow my truck for a week so he could do some moving. everything went smooth up until last night when he was bringing it back. they got about 20 miles outside of Iola Kansas, where i go to college, and THIS happend!

this is the short shaft on the rear drive shaft. its pretty tore up, as you may of noticed. there are chunks missing everwhere on this peice, even from the inside of the u-joint

just another view, just to show the carnage.

the other end of the short shaft looked to me to be in pretty decent condition, other then replacing the u-joint it should be just fine.

the middle peice not sure what its even called, but thats about the extent of the damage on that.

this is the farthest back end of my drive shaft.

as you can see its wedged in there pretty good.

as you can see the u-joint managed to shift outward on one side pushing the other out.

this is the front end of that shaft. as you can tell its been broken off.

im gona have to replace that part, dam

this is on the rear axle, not sure wat its called.

this peice looks to be fine xcept for the cap for the u-joint is still stuck in it.

this is coming out of the transfer case.

as you can tell there is a peice missing, ive got to replace that too.

and theres still a peice of the u-joint still lodged in there

this is how she sits now. driveshaft in the back of the truck. not goin anywhere for a while.

all and all there wasnt any real bad damage, i mean goin 70 down the highway and ur driveshaft falls off and this is all that happens? kinda amazing. he said he will be back up next week with new peices and he'll help me put my baby back together again. glad i dont have to pay too much for it.. lol

have a look into the 1 piece driveshaft swap. Looks like youre going to put a chunk of money into a system that is mediocre, why not put only a small amount more into a system that has less parts to break in the future and is more reliable, and is better when lifting? It eliminates the steady bearing between the short and long shafts, and 1 U joint.

At least do yourself a favor and look into it. Sasquatch_Ryda has done the swap already, as have many others, and I'll be doing it as soon as I have a UJoint go again.

Good luck!

Looks like that u-joint hasn't been greased in quite awhile or am I seeing something different from the pictures? I had the front shaft let go once and that sure gets you attention real quick, lucky it didn't come thru the floor.

No, uncle doesn't owe anything. That thing looks like it died of neglect. Water was in the cup on the bottom in that first picture. Looks to have sat for a while. It just did it's honest best until it couldn't any more, bound up and sprayed it's parts.

Yeah, but if the drive shaft looks like that, you need eye protection to be in the parking lot when he engages the front axle.
