Bought a 91 2.9 a4od 4x4 supercab with extra wheels(10 in total) and topper for $200 dropped in a battery and drove onto trailer. Had a misfire from broken plug, coolant leak from loose clamp, vacuum hose missing from shift mod. After a month of driving it starting becomes erratic and I find the teen had put a 2.3 starter in ugh what else

$200 for a running vehicle these days is a rarity.
Hopefully for a few bucks+hours more, you can get these smaller bugs worked out & have a reliable ride.

Bought my first car for $35 in 1972, a 65 Biscayne 4 door, straight 6. My brother and I, my cousin, and one of his buddies took it from Dallas to Austin for the concert at Gatlin creek, the same place where Willie Nelson was inspired to do his first 4th of July picnic show the same year.

Got my first Ranger, a 77 2WD for free, 30 years later :D

Ah, the good ol' days when cars & gas & road trips & concerts & ... were cheap & easy.

Well it was his sons...teenager that didn't know what he was doing and didn't care to do it right. It didn't even have the correct starter bolts so starter kept wobbling out

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
My son used the 4 cylinder starter on his Turbo Coupe after he swapped in the 302 and it worked fine.
Stuff wasn't really cheaper if you factor in how long you had to work to earn those dollars. I was earning $1.85 an hour in 1972 when 103 octane Sunoco 260 sold for $.46.9 a gallon and Getty premium was $.39.9. The rent on my first tiny apartment was $25 a week. My base week was Monday through Saturday, 6am to 4 pm: 60 hours a week. 60x 1.85= $111 before taxes.

The 2.9 starters I find for my truck are all single wire while the starter on it was a 2 wire that was done incorrectly and shorted out. It has a cherry bomb with flexpipe and exhaust clamps instead of a catalytic converter. The list of things the kid did wrong instead of researching is immense

OK so my salvage guy just got a 95 4x4 4.0 5spd in the yard. He's a wheel n deal guy as I traded my extra wheels for starter and solenoid. So considering doing a little trading for the Trans from that as I have the dreaded t code and I miss my technical pedal so much my left leg twitches lol.

The kid had 6 brand new spark plugs in the passenger door and the clamp was on all new coolant hoses

I spend a lot of time tinkering on this truck. I had a fuse block and some green rock lights laying around so those went on. Radio didn't work and had a flip out touchscreen laying around so in it went

How hard was it to start after 3 years?
I dropped a battery in it and had to half throttle it as soon as it turned over but it fired pretty easily

Forgot to mention it didn't even need chemicals to start. Just the battery
