It’s still available. Over the years, I had the thought of taking one of these, and making a short Cabover semi, the cabovers were the thing because of the length when I was a kid. Oh well, opportunity lost.

You know- theres a idea. Never have I ever seen a econoline truck with a 5th wheel. I dont think Ive seen one with a trailer either. Dad said when he started working at a gas station way back in the day they had one with a snow blade. Hope they loaded the bed. I could picture the back wheels lifting off the ground if you hit the brakes too hard.

These trucks were similar to the Dodge A–series, which also had van and pickup versions. Dodge had a tilt-cab semi based on the cab of the pickup version, which was called the L series. IMC even made a model kit of the L-700 version, but in real life these trucks were rare.

This shows you that making an Econoline pickup this vintage into a semi could have been done if Ford had wanted, but this generation wasn't around long. The Dodge A–series remained in production for a few years after Ford discontinued the forward-control Econolines.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

That styling reminds me of the Prowler.
similar to a 2000 chevy SSR
Prowler was a Plymouth open front wheel factory retro-rod.

this one looks like a cut down HHR, or maybe Dakota???

That’s right. I get those mixed up. Thought they both looked cool, though.

Cool, if mine was worth fixing Id consider doing that . Twisted chassis from a rollover 3-ish years ago and a broken flexplate pretty much make it yard art.

That HHR pickup conversion looked well done, except for not being painted to match the front.

There was a panel version of the HHR for commercial use that had the side windows blanked behind the front doors. It still had 4 doors, but the windows in the rear side doors were blanked. Only saw a few of those. One would have been ideal for the pickup conversion, and maybe that's what was used.
