I plan to be there Saturday morning. I've been here a lot in the past, and it isn't as well maintained as it used to be. I was last here 2 years ago on my oldest son's 18th birthday. They don't maintain anything anymore. They are more ATV oriented than truck oriented now.
The rules are the same, but the truck areas have deteriorated. Purgatory, the rock crawl obstacle, is dead. Scattered. There are still lots of rocks to crawl on. We used to divide up into more capable and less capable groups. However we named them. Point is, there were a couple places in the easy area that were easy then, and could now be difficult now. Like a ridge that you could drive along, going fast over the narrow points, where the narrow points have been jumped by so many bikes and ATVs that a truck would center on them now. I'm not taking my truck over those ridges now.
I wanted to do an exploratory but it didn't happen. I still know the layout of the place, and there is a lot to do. It's going to be a lot of trails with deep mud holes. We haven't have much rain so just some deep holes I think. A lot of up and down at the beginning. Like Walmart aisles of up and down. It was an organized quarry and it shows. There are a lot of rock-crawl obstacles to try even though Purgatory is gone. Ledges mostly.
Sand dunes, if you like that.
One of my daughters, 15, will be driving my FJ. Stock on 32" tires, manual trans, rear locker. It's going to be a fun day for me.
