hey guys. i recently came across a company that made various billet adapters for ford engine to gm trans or vise versa but they did not have anything for a ranger 4.0 to gm auto trans. was wondering if anyone has came across said item?

Never looked personally but your better off looking at mustang 4.0 stuff. Same engine so same bellhousing pattern but more likely to find performance parts like that from mustang places. Ive done a TH400 behind a ford 429 before but used an ultrabell housing which is not exactly an adapter.

Though I am a fan of the GM th350 and th400 a ford C4 is more than capable of handling any power a 4.0 can make and has piles of aftermarket/upgrade parts available so unless you have a built GM trans laying around I really see no point specifically going for GM stuff. This is the reason I used a th400 behind my 429 since I already had a transbraked reverse valve body one built from another project...

And the C5 that was on a 2.8 was a slightly watered down C4... and can be built the same as a C4 (or just swap bellhousings)

i currently have a very built c4 built by culhane transmissions and love it aside from ONE THING. No overdrive. i feel like if possible a gm4l80e trans would give me everything i want. manual valve body capabilities with overdrive

60 deg units were available at one point.. never understood why they did that instead of 90 deg pattern since those are everywhere..

only thing i know of is vw trans and diesel adapters currently...there are guys using block plates with 400's in desert racing or maybe just dune jumping would be a better description..

most guys use c/4's

mark built some 4.0 to sbf bell adapters...they are out there..i have not talked to him in a few years...he built doublers too.

I know the pain. I just ditched my C4/5 mutant for a M5R2 to get overdrive. :icon_twisted:

how much power are you making?

4l80 is worse then a 400 for eating power...be in the 300 ft pounds area to use a 4l80 and not piss you off too much.

2wd? aftermarket overdrive.

im not making power haha!!! stock ohv 4.0 with only a dyno tune geared to the moon in a desert race truck. 190tq and 2wd. its still "street legal" and do drive it out to the dirt on day play trips so theres why i want the O/D. I cant imagine a 80 eats more than a c4...maybe im wrong?

C4 is light duty, 4L80 is to the TH400 like the E4OD/4R100 is to the C6.

Why not just go with a gear vendors overdrive unit on the c4 you already have? They cost a fortune but by the time you build an entire nother trans there wont be much difference...

i have a 4l80 in my truck...takes about 3-7 percent over a 4l60 at cruise. stock for stock. thats a consistently seen difference on a dyno.

pretty sure a 4l60 uses more power then a c4...its about the least power robbing auto of the three speeds.

but lets say less then 10 percent overall. 8.

on the hiway cruising..thats not the issue rolling power....its all the stop and go all the time where it kills you. starting in sand will make a big difference with the 80 pound converter...

the 4l60 (700r4) has the lighter components and killer first gear to make the all around cruising more efficient. 3.07 to one 1st gear is perfect.
