So we have a major storm on our hands out here in L.A. County and we might be having quarter size hail, so I made the executive desicion to move the Ranger into the garage tonight.

Thunderstorms here in the Pacific are plenty. Most of the time, GPS and mobile signals go down.

Its still goin strong up here but not cold enough for hail. were alot closer to it than you are though. it was centered out around palmdale which is just like 20 min up the freeway.

I've seen it hail when the temp was around 80* or so, ground temp doesn't matter much because the hail forms high up.

Often when strong thunderstorm comes through here they will claim that it will hail, I've gotten tired of getting excited about such a report because only once was it enough to damage things (and then it put something like 92 dents in my Ranger and destroyed my 1-yr old aluminum cap). I was parked under two huge oaks too, it seemed like it made things worse.

On a side note, we had two F-350s sitting out in that same storm - an 89 and a 94. Both survived the storm with two very small dings each. Hooray for thicker sheet metal and steel hoods, lol.

Oklahoma also just had it's biggest earthquake on record which was a 5 and some change. Quakes are regular around here. I sleep through anything smaller than a 6 or 7 depending on how far away it is.
You grow accustomed to your surroundings and it's novel when you get something unusual. Like lightning and hail in Southern California.

I don't think it was centered around Palmdale. I measured almost 2 inches of rain in Costa Mesa that fell between 8:00AM and 5:30PM. No hail though.

We could sure use some rain here, only had about a 1/4" total all month. Last month we had 5 1/2" in one day. Screwy weather lots of places.
