i took one of my 3 12ga. shotguns to a gunsmith a couple of weeks back to get it cut down. when i was there he told me not to worry about buying gun oil for my guns, he said he prefers to use whatever motor oil i have laying around. your guys take on this? good idea or bad? i don't know a ton about guns, but i do know my way around them and the safety aspect, so i figured since he is a professional i could trust it, but just wanted someone els'es take on it

there's different ways to do lots of stuff. i'm sure it could work and not cause any problems, but i'll just use rem oil or the equivalent. motor oil is made for cars, that's why it says "motor" on it. gun oil is for guns, that's why it says "gun" on it.

i'm cheap, but not so cheap that i want to save $4 so i dont have to buy gun oil.

maybe it's just me here, but if i've got my guns at a gunsmith and he tells me "aw, nah, dont worry about that just throw some 10w-30 in there..." i'm picking up my guns and finding a new smith
