99 Ranger 4.0l, extra cab flareside. 138,000 miles
Tranny started slipping between 2nd and 3rd a while back and had a delay when put in reverse before it would catch and would sometimes pop hard.
Now hangs in first unless you throttle up and release accelerator then it changes sometimes rough sometimes smooth.
Took to tranny shop they say needs rebuild, no 2nd gear and shutters into third. Fluid was full but discolored like tranny had gotten hot. I've never changed the filter or fluid, only had 1 year.
Also when I try the engine hold test in first, it like its in neutral.
Problem
Paid $3500 for truck in 2009
Rebuild = $1500 w/ 1yr unlimted mile warranty
Reman from Ford = $2300 installed 3yr unlimited mile warranty
Valve Body Job = $200? if i've read the posts correctly and this is the problem???
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated on the direction I need to go.
