I have a 87 2.9 man with Fm 145. I putting in a 91 4.0 auto. Iam going to use the manual trans (Fm145) I know not the best idea but I have to start somewhere. I was wandering which flywheel do I need to use. The 2.9 man or the 4.0 auto, and which stater do I use I have a man 2.9 and a auto 4.0. Do I need to get a man 4.0 starter. Agin Iam only planning on using the Fm145 until I can afford my D35/8.8 swap and find a M50D. So I only have to convert driveshafts one time.

Thanks in advance.

I am going to be nice since Christmas is in a couple days. You have to use a manual flywheel with a manual trany and vive versa with an auto. If I was you I would go with a 4.0 man flywheel, you are going to need it soon any ways. As for starters, auto and man starters are different. Use a manual starter. Your engine is from an auto truck so it might have the ribbed aluminum oil pan. If it does then that limits your starter options. Get a 4.0 manual starter.

Thank you thats what I was thanking but was not a 100%. I wanted to get all my ducks in a row since I hope to start it after the fist of the year. As far as the motor its from a 91 X but it does have the ribbed oil pan. Should I locate a smooth pan, as far as starter options why does the pan make it so limited.

The ribbed pan just stops you from useing a 2.9 starter. Just use the 4.0 starter.
