Good morning all. A while back I used some sound deadening in my Ranger when I upgraded my door speakers, and it did work well, but I didn’t do a great job installing it. I didn’t cut holes for the seat bolts, I just cut a slit after I stuck it on and impacted them through the sound deadening. I’m working on my interior again now, and I’m trying to think of ways to strip the adhesive out of the threads in the cab. Any ideas?

oh man, you might be stuck just using a tap and going over it a few times. when i have ever had to remove sound deadening, i always had to use a scraper and whatever little parts i couldn;t get, hope that gasoline got it off

Goo gone? Paint thinner might work but it might damage the sound deadening mat in the process.

WD40, any oil or paint thinner, bug 'n tar remover.
I would not use brake cleaner.

I think a properly sized tap would probably work best for cleaning, maybe in conjunction with the one of the cleaners mentioned above. Using a tap does have a downside though. Most of the nuts, nut inserts, or clip nuts for important bolts on the body are usually lock nuts and running a tap through them will typically destroy the locking feature. Not too big of a deal on things like the fenders and stuff, but a little more critical for things like seats or seat belts. If you use a tap on those nuts and the bolts are easy to thread in completely (no locking resistance) I'd recommend taking the bolts back out ans using some blue locktite. Red is stronger, but would be overkill for these locations and you want them to be removable with hand tools and no heat in the future.

Mayber a bore cleaning brush in a drill with the cleaners mentioned? It would get into the threads without messing with the locking feature. I used to do this when cleaning out small bolt holes at work and it worked well. Those were typically 1/4" or smaller bolt and a 22 caliber bore brush worked great. Not sure if a bore brush large enough for the seat bolts would be stiff enough to do the job, but I would probably try it before a tap.

I guess I will update this thread if anyone is lazy with sound deadening like I was haha. For the bolts, I used goo gone and a wire wheel on my bench vise. For the threads in the cab, I used a 1/2 inch fitting brush and goo gone. Lesson learned, if you are doing sound deadening, stay away from the seat bolts 😂
