88 ford ranger 2.9. It will run fine for a while. Then all the sudden when i hit about 2000rpm it will fall and start missin. Then if i floor it it will haul. So it falls in the 1800-3000 rpm range, and misses. Any ideas appreciated.

Sounds a lot like a problem I had. Try disconnecting the electrical connector on the O2 sensor to see what happens. The O2 sensor on my '87 is located on the Y-pipe of the exhaust system, just in front of the flange to the catalytic converter. Yours should be close to that. The run-stumble run-stumble cycle my engine was experiencing instantly stopped when I simply unplugged this sensor. It's a fast easy thing to try, and if it doesn't make a difference, just clip it back on.

so i ran the codes and it gave me a bunch of fuel pump codes form who knows when. I reset and the light hasnt came on. I did unplug the 02 sensor and it helped a lot. Where should i go from here, replace the o2 sensor. I didnt know if unplugging it will put it in a safe mode, where it overrides other sensors.

what were the code numbers you got? if you need to unplug the oxygen sensor to keep it running right then you may have other problems elsewhere, drive the truck for a bit and then pull codes again.

Doesn't have a MAFS. Water could damaged the engine (bent rod, etc.)

Specifically what were the codes? If you don't remember pull them again. If you're scared to drive it far, just do laps up and down the street at least if if dies you won't have far to push it.
