I have a 2000 Ranger 4X4 4.0L Standard and when I put on the Hedman Headers, K&N cold air kit and JET chip I notice now that the RPM in fifth gear has changed. Before the mods ~ 60 mph it would run ~ 3000 rpms and after the mods ~ 90 mph it would run ~ 3000 rpm. There is no (noticeable) change in any other gear. What happened? Did the chip do this?
Thanks

3,000 RPM,s at 60 in 5th gear seems like alot to begin with, even in my 2002 with automatic and 4:10 gears im only turning about 2800 at 80.

Yeah I don't like driving it over 3000 rpm but I'm over here in Germany where the speed limit is 120 kph ~80 mph. With just those mods I listed there has been a change.

There is nothing wrong with 3000 RPM. This is a medium-sized V6, not a big-rig Diesel.

But unless you added a new super-overdrive transmission or changed the differential gearing dramatically, you aren't doing 90 MPH at 3000 RPM. Your tach is wrong.

Probably an electrical problem. I doubt the chip did it, but YOU might have on installation. Or maybe it's unrelated.
