I went on UPS website, and it seems like shipping it ground should cost under $150. The quote they gave me was $120, which sound about right.
I put down 75lbs, and a 60" x 14" x 14" box as an estimate.
I know UPS and FedEx normally charge a lot more to ship something that is not in a box, that may have been your issue.
