Problem Installing Transmission

Truck is a 84. I'm installing a 4.0 M5OD trans with my 1350 t-case attached to my 2.8L.

I thought this would have been cake since I'm using a transmission jack and not trying to bench press it into place. My clutch alignment tool fully inserts but when I try and get the transmission to sit flush with the block, I get stuck right before it goes onto the aligment dowls. My slave/TOB is sitting right up against the pressure plate but I'm still the length of the dowl pin away from sitting flush against the block.

Any thoughts?

You have to jack the engine up to the right position. It'll sag towards the back making it hard to line the tranny up.

Can you use some allthread through the bellhousing bolt holes, and nuts, to suck the engine and trans together?

I had a problem with this a while back which turned out to be a defective throwout bearing from Rock Auto. The plastic part of the TB was catching on the slave cylinder and would not allow the trans to slide forward. Wore me out for a couple days. Went right in with a different TB. Using longer bolts to start it and getting the engine in the right position are key. Is the TC on or off. Probably a lot easier with it off the trans.

Transfer case is attached and it is quite bulky with them together. I know I'm off just a hair which isn't letting me seat this thing. I'm going to try jacking on the oil pan to help level things out.

Well after a few more failed attempts I thought it might be easier to pull the motor and try to install it out of the truck. I got the engine out and went to stab the trans and again got hung up where it just wouldn't sit flush to the block.

After some additonal inspection I figured the hydrolics were what was keeping it from seating and I was right. Once I opened that damn bleader screw I was able to get that released pressure out and now it is all together. Sucks I figured that out after I pulled the motor but hopefully it won't be a terrible job putting it all back in one assembly. Live and learn.
