89 2.9l manual tranny, electric transfer case. I have some questions about reading codes and I am guesing you guys will know something about them.
I have 86 and 89 codes that came from an engine off/key on test. I used a test light and a jumper.

First question: It gave me the codes twice. First 89 then 86, then it did it again. After that it had a couple of longer flashes - maybe this was a 12 code, or maybe it is some finishing pattern for the computer?

Here is what they are listed as:
86:
2 3L or 2 9L Truck – A4LD 3/4 shift solenoid – Transmissions
(M) 1 9L MFI – System has corrected lean condition – Fuel control

Second Question: I have a manual, so the A4LD thing doesn't apply?
Third Question: What does the MFI code mean?

89:
A4LD – Converter Clutch Override solenoid – Transmissions
AXOD Torque Converter Control solenoid circuit – Transmissions
Exhaust Heat Control (heat riser) solenoid circuit – Solenoids

Fourth Question: Again, I have a manual so how does this code apply?

NOTE: My transfer case motor is out and the wires cut to go it off. Could this be throwing the codes?

My credo
If it ain't broke, break it.
Sounds like the computer came from an auto tranny truck. :dunno:

I don't think that's possible is it? They have different computers for different configurations of vehicles - not sure if the truck would even run right. I remember checking the number on it awhile back. I can check again

It's possible. They plug right in. It's looking for the tranny components and they are not there. The one code you got has multiple meanings depending on what engine you have. That is what the 1 9 MFI I am assuming means. I think the 1.9 was a Escort engine. They used this computer system in those also, so if you had one of those that code would mean something different for that model.

OK, so basically I have no codes. Its just looking for a tranny that has left the building
