Dirtman is in charge of pickles.
Hmmm, I don’t know about that. Are there going to be pickle handling and storage standards? Inspections?
And, I don’t mind the Mexicans, but if Californians are going to be there, I’m definitely going to have to reconsider. Could we set it up so they work on the left side of the house, and I work on the right side of the house?
35 years ago one of my projects was a 300,000 ft.² warehouse with tilt walls in Richardson. The slab was poured, and we were forming the tilt walls to be poured in sequence in the following days. I went out to inspect and oversee. In the middle of it, the roach coach came, and then one of the foreman came up to me and said I’m sorry, the border patrol is coming we’re going to have to leave work for a couple hours, but it’ll still be done today. I almost had a heart attack when I was informed a lot of the labor might not be legal.
Sure enough, border patrol came over the hill with squad cars and school buses.
Everybody took off running, some fast, some slow, in every direction. I thought of the area is flat, but these guys found plenty of places to hide. Well, the border patrol guys took out after him, and grabbed about 20 or 30 and brought them back to the school buses. Almost to a man, as they got to the steps of the school bus, they said “pardone”, and they pulled out a green card. It turned out that it was planned that all the illegals would run fast as hell and hide, and all the legals would also run, but they would run slowly. I think they ended up getting one guy. It all took about 30-40 minutes, and then everybody was back at work an hour later. It’s one of the damnedest things I’ve ever seen.
