My 31s are rubbing in the front when turning hard.

I think I found the rubbing on my newly installed 31s. I'm almost certain its the stock mud flaps in the front. If I remove the inner stock mudflap in the front wheel wells, will there be any openings for shit to get in once removed. If so I'll deal with the slight rubbing when turning hard.

Front mud flap?

I've run 31's on those trucks for many many miles. It was rare to get any kind of rub... a couple times at the extremes.

Does it rub at steering full lock?

@Uncle Gump . Yes, It rubs making hard full turns only. It's more on the drivers side then the passenger side. Could it be a front end part that it's rubbing on? I'm not 100% sure that it's the inside mud flaps yet.

@Uncle Gump , Basically I'm cautious as not to turn too hard. My question was do the stock mudflaps when removed create any openings in the wheel well, so shit can get in, salt, dirt etc? I'm too lazy to remove and check them,, and it's too F...g cold out.

I had an 89 STX that I put 31" tires on. It would very slightly rub at full turn. As I recall, I found the front of the tire would just barely touch the frame. I never worried about it because it never did any damage even when in very rough stuff off-road. I also made an effort to not turn the wheel all the way, but if I needed to, I would.

It had plenty of clearance to the front mud flaps. The 89 STX had a factory 1.5" lift in the front, so that may have help with the mud flap clearance.

Yeah... iwouldnt remove any flaps or shields. I would simply stop short of the rub.

Well mud flaps and splash shields are all put in place to prevent water and debris from intruding a given area.

Same wheels & same size tires & same front axle here - they rub on the radius arms on hard turns. I think a small spacer might fix it but I just live with it for now.
