Here is a basic wiring diagram for turn signals and hazards
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/EDiagrams/files/Diagram_turn_stop_hazard.JPG

The hazard circuit uses a different path in the multi-switch, so multi-switch could be the problem.
The brake lights also use a different path, by-passing the most of the multi-switch

First does the light for the turn signal in the dash come on but not flash?

Does the rear light come on and not flash?

Fix the rear lights/connector and they should start working.

The flasher needs the additional resistance from the rear lamps in order to flash.
What you have now is a normal operation/symptom when a rear lamp is burnt out.

Yes, all bulbs on each turn signal side must be connected, and good, for the circuit to work.

That is how you can tell when a bulb is burned out, signal stops flashing :)

Odd, I have had a rapid flashing on one side and normal on the other on one vehicle which has a light out. The other vehicle has all lights working with the same symptoms.
