I owned/own an '87 and a '91 ranger stx/4x4. The stx highrider was made for [I think] two years - '87 and '88. It was the one with a factory 2" lift in the front. After that it's just badging. So I just realized I can't answer your question....anyone else?

In '89 the "High-rider" option was renamed "Sport-rider", but still remained the same factory 2" lift. I dont know what year that option went away.

I know that didnt help answer your question either, sorry.

The 89 STX 4WD still had the factory lift but was called Sport Rider. It may have been the best of the STX models. It came standard with 21 unique suspension components, limited slip rear axle and heavy duty gas pressurized shocks. I don't know if the earlier STX models had the same features as standard.

1990 was the beginning of the primarily decal package with a few other upgrades. Each year after that seemed to offer less upgrades. I don't know the exact last year of the STX 4WD but I am guessing around 96 but could be a little later. I doubt it went past 98.

The STX was available until at least 2007. The last generation STX had the really cool looking grille and pretty cool, although low-hanging bumper.

I was very specific and said ( 4x4 ):icon_thumby: and not 2 wheel drive.

Who said they weren't available in 4wd in 2007? I don't know if they were or not, just sayin.
( I ) did not ask what was the last year of the ford ranger STX.

I DID ask what was the last year of the ford ranger STX / 4X4

You said and I quote

" The STX was available until at least 2007. The last generation STX had the really cool looking grille and pretty cool, although low-hanging bumper."

You answered a question I did NOT ask!!

Are you following me yet?

Fine. After some more digging, the last year of the STX was 2000, until it was reintroduced in 2005 as a 2wd only model. Now I'm assuming they were still available in 4wd in 2000, but can't say for sure. I wasn't able to find that out in my search. That should at least give you a place to start looking. You're welcome. :thefinger:

Yea I know they made them until 1997 because I have a 1996 and have seen a few 97's but I don't think I have ever seen a ( 4x4 ) STX from the factory past the model year 1997.

I know Ford had a 97 4x4 STX model. I had a buddy that had one for about 4 years. He got rid of it after he had so many crazy things go wrong with it. He bought it new Jan of '98. I don't think Ford made a '98 or a '99 STX 4x4. I had a sales brochure from my Ford dealership when I bought my new 99 Ranger there. I looked at all the models and I did not see a 4x4 STX mentioned in the brochure. I will call my brother-in-law tomorrow up in Ohio. He has worked for Ford for 30 years now. He can find that answer if we can't....lol
