Hello all, I'm quite excited to be joining with my project. 1989 Bronco II XLT, that my grandfather bought new. it was DD'd throughout the 90's, and in the early 2000's was pulled from the road and plowed snow at the acreage a couple times a year up until now. it was undercoated early in its life, so next to no rust on the underbody, and standard component surface rust on the frame/suspension. It got a brand new 2.9 in 2009, and gone about 6000 miles since. my uncle bought all 4 fenders, and door panels before he moved to texas in 2010, so its ready for a full restoration. The interior is absolutely mint, its been parked in a hangar its whole life when not in use, so no sun damage, fading or brittleness. AND it already has the Warn hub conversion.

Here's my main plan, and why im excited to join the forums. I'm a Mercedes-Benz Master tech, BMW Certified tech, and a self proclaimed hot rodder. I have a bit more experience and resources than the average joe in terms of modification and fabrication. This however, is my first 4x4 build. Really, my first non sports car/hot rod build, and as im a new age European mechanic, i lack plenty of knowledge in the field of old 4x4 and truck technology, and will need help through some of that (i.e. regearing for bigger tires, etc), but i will hopefully be able to trial some mods and techniques that some people have been a bit too nervous to take on due to lack of forum write ups or other people having done them (i.e removable doors mod, power increase, etc)

I want to do this build as cost effective as possible. which means not necessarily the cheapest, which seems to be the way most garage builds seem to be now days. obviously times are tough, but ill spend 20% more money for a 50% better part if you know what i mean. things are usually the cheapest for a reason. but the most expensive is also usually just crazy retailer markup, just gotta find the sweet spot. ill just need guidance on what those may be for these things! especially living in Canada, parts are hard to come by, and everything is more expensive, anything I do on here, can probably be done 10% or so cheaper in the USA.

Thanks for reading!

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

Be sure to create a build thread so we can follow along with you. Some of the things you mention like removable doors have been done. So have half doors... tube doors... removable front clip etc... not sure the how to articles exist though.

Good to see you're fired up about the project... good luck as you proceed.

Welcome to TRS...

ill definitely make a thread for the build. most mods have been done, but theres very limited write ups, and even less so with pictures and recommended parts/methods for the less popular ones. it'll take me a bit to get used to navigating the forums and but ill update as much as i can over the next while

thanks! the badge is just the dealership from which it was originally sold to my grandfather. The hubs and the radio are the only thing not as it was the day of delivery!

That's pretty cool to preserve for sure! It's hard finding something the factory radio wasn't changed in from early 80's to mid 2000's which is a shame..
