Hey, so i can get a dana 44 from a wagoneer, the guy has it in an exploder as of now all set up but is parting it out. The axle is out of an 84, but has warn manual hubs now instead of the vacuum disconnect. How does one of these axles compare to an EB dana 44 and is it worth throwin in my ranger?

thanks

I think the waggy has a 6 bolt pattern and the EB has a 5.5 x 5. Also dont know if the waggy is a FW axle or if it runs leaves, cant exactly remember.

The Waggy axle has larger axle u-joints (same size as what you have now on your D35), EB D44 u-joints are smaller.
Both are lo-pinion
EB axle is set up for coils, Waggy is leafs (SUA)
EB axle is ~ 58" wide, Waggy ~ 61"
EB is 5x5.5" lug, Waggy 6x5.5"

I say keep the D35 or throw a D60 (w/10.25" rear to match) under it. D44s (especially lo-pinion ones) IMO don't really offer a whole lot outside of bigger brakes unless you throw a bunch of $$$ at it (in which case might as well just get the D60). D44 brakes can be swapped onto the D35 as well.

The guy has 4:88 gears already installed, and is coil sprung. Personally I'm tired of my ttb 35. It's a money pit and a pain to maintain, just trying to find a good replacement

its gonna be way wider up front than in the rear. bolt pattern wont match. low pinion.

other than that its not that bad really. lots of guys run the LP EB44. if you keep the tire size within reason and dont hammer down all the time you should be fine. i just think running the different bolt pattern would become a pain in the ass and i dont think you can get shafts for the 8.8 in 6x5.5 without being fully custom.

what is he asking for the axle??

I would try to get the rear front the exploder if it has the same bolt pattern as the rear.

If I do decide to get it, I'm also taking the rear, which is an amc 20 locked with the same gearing. With all brakelines both driveshafts radius arms and everything that goes along with the front end. $700

Not a bad price IMO.
