info on 28 and 31 spline axels

can some one explain to me where the spline is and what it dose and if i need two switch parts out if im swappping a 28 to 31.

The splines are on the end axle shaft where it goes into the carrier, in the center of your axle housing. Yes you need to swap some parts to use the 31 spline axles, however I'm not sure what parts need swapped. I'm going to swap in an Explorer axle... I'll get the 3.73 ratio I want, trac loc, 31 spline axles, and disc brakes all at the same time.

lol that is exactly what im looking at i want a limited slip and trying to find 4 10 gears but the 3.73 will still do

You cannot put 31 spline shafts into a 28 spline housing, they are different lengths and the bearing journal is a different diameter in the ends of the axle tubes.

If you want 31 spline rear axles, swap in an explorer 8.8.
