There is a good chance the stock pcm tune will struggle with a E303 cam - it has nearly 30* more intake duration and nearly 20* more exhaust duration than the stock Explorer cam. I've been told multiple times that the stock Explorer tune is not very accomodating of different cams, so I would plan on getting a tune.
The diode is required to ensure the pcm is never reverse polarized - doing that will fry it.
