I want to assemble new intermediate steering shaft.

92' Ranger XLT with 2.9 V6.
I'd like to replace my original intermediate steering shaft. I don't like the rag disc coupling design and the shaft is cut 1/3 of the way through by a careless mechanic years ago.

The guy at Borgeson is confident I can assemble a new telescopic steering shaft that will fit my truck with these part numbers:

telescopic shaft part# 450024 (will need to be cut down)
column joint part# 015252
steering box joint part# 034934

Are their specs available on my original power steering shaft, such as spline count, diameter, bolt diameter, extended/compressed length?

I just took mine apart and measured stuff. Through NY research, I found there have been a surprising number of changes throught the years in Rangers and Explorers. I used a combination of junk yard parts and Borgeson u-jpints to rebuild mine. Maybe this will give you some inspiration.

One thing that was brought to my attention with the flag deal, some parks require the flag to be on the front of the truck. Badlands just happens to not care as long as it is 2' above the the truck. So if you come up with a good way to do it you might be farther ahead mounting it towards the...

Sorry, I need to correct something here. I am replacing the LOWER steering shaft in the engine bay......not the intermediate shaft.
It looks like I need 3 parts from Borgeson to make a new telescopic steering shaft. I'm working on finding out the spline count.

I'm having difficulty finding the correct U-Joint for the steering gear input shaft.
Still working on a solution.

I finally finished and installed this new intermediate steering shaft. I ended up using 3 dog point set screws and 2 regular sets screws all anchored with jam nuts. Here is the picture. It works great. I'm glad to be done with that rag disc setup for good. Thanks again for the advice.

I used the wrong terminology again. This is the lower steering shaft I replaced in the engine bay.

I call it intermediate. It's between the column and the steering box.

The diagram in my Chilton manual calls the shaft in the engine bay 'lower'
I didn't want to confuse anyone.
