Climb under and take a look, usually when a u-joint is bad it's fairly obvious. You might have to pull the driveline off to get a better look, there shouldn't be any play in the joint at all. They're really easy and cheap to rebuild too.

u-joints usually produce an intermittent "squeak, squeak, squeak" as the driveline goes 'round. id still check it, but my bet is the u-joint isnt the problem.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
two piece driveline?

sure it isnt a belt? or a loose skidplate rubbing the shaft?

Take it on a short drive, the park and feel your u-joints. If you have a bad one it'll be burning hot, or just hotter than the rest, depending on how you drove it.

Get under the truck grab the drive shaft and rotate it back and forth. look for play in the joints. also check the bolts that attach the driveline to the diff. they came loose on my 92 once and made the truck act really funny. That being loose along with a bad U-joint made a hell of a racket too.

a bad joint vibes.

didnt see where you had a vibe issue.

so i was under the assumption you looked and didnt see an obvious joint fault and was wondering if it was starting to dry up and was gettin ready to fail..and this was a condition leading to it.

the hanger bearing on the other hand will squeal as its last days approach without big vibe issues initially. with worn or failed tranny mount/engine mounts it can load the bearing to where it will squeal or shift the drive shaft to rub something.

i could never know without phsically inspecting the vehicle. could just be the brakes...broke spring or simply worn...or the rear wheel bearing is going...leading to a shift condition in the situations listed...

:fie:hell i could go on and on...
