Feel free to add as many insults about New Jersey drivers as you want as long as you answer the question first...

When your pumping your own gas in a non NJ state how does one top off the tank with cash when you don't know exactly how much gas your actually going to need? :icon_confused:

I've always used a credit card at the pump so it never mattered, I have a 2,000 mile trip planned next week and wanna use cash as much as possible.

Give the cashier $40-$60-$80 and they will set the pump for that much and then give you change if it doesn't take it all

They just quit doing it around me, pay at pump or prepay inside.

I put extra cash in the cashier's hand. Living in California with our bs gas prices, it takes around 45.00 to fill my truck's tank from a quarter tank. My 94 has I believe a 15 or 16 gallon tank, reason it takes a little more is I use mid grade at chevron or shell. I usually give them 50, I just do mostly 20.00 at a time these days.

So essentially I pull up to the pump, go inside and give them more money than I think it will take, go back out and pump, then go back inside to get change?

Ok no more insulting NJ cause that is freaking idiotic... :buttkick:

or give them a lesser amount and not get a full tank.
you could also buy a gift card with cash and use that.

You should have a good estimate of how much it takes to fill up your tank.

not really much to it, go inside and tell the cashier you want $40 on pump 3. go back and buy lottery/beer/ or snickers bars with the change.

by the way, the last dollar or 50 cents will go real slow, they don't want to go past the limit.

Yes I can judge fairly well how much I need within a couple bucks. But I'm not gonna put $40 on the pump, use only $38 and give the next guy a free 2 bucks worth of gas. I'm not canadian... :icon_rofl:

Yes, well that was the point of my question. I didn't know getting change for gas like that was a thing. :icon_rofl:

I understand now, its still an annoying way to get gas. But I get it.

I like sitting in my truck while it’s raining and saying “fill it regular”.
