I have a 99 ranger 4.0 with a manual transmition. I was driving last night and my clutch quit working. There was no pressure behind the pedal and I was unable to put the truck into gear. I pulled over and checked the reservior and found it to be empty. Further inspection showed that fluid was leaking from the front of the transmition and around the starter. I filled the reservior and was able to make it back to my dorm. Now it was about -9 degrees F last night and I am not sure if that would have had a huge effect or not. I checked my truck this morning and there was no loss of fluid from the reservior and it doesn't look like more has leaked out from the transmition. I'm not sure if there is a pressure release that let out the fluid and everything is ok. I hope that someone has ran into this cituation and know what is goin on. Any help would be great. Thanks

slave cylinder. When you replace it, use an OEM one. Otherwise you'll likely be doing in again on a yearly basis. hell, you might be doing it anyways.

Ok so i've driven it the last two days quite a bit(DD no choice) and kept an eye on the reservior level for the clutch fluid. It hasn't changed at all. Does anyone else think that this is wierd? It has warmed up a little since then. Could it loosing fluid have been a safety pressure release or something on the slave cylinder?

Not to sure. Such a low temp could have shrunk a seal or something, highly unlikely, but if its not leaking anymore and working fine, just Cross your fingers it stays that way.

And yea, slaves can go bad real fast. i put a slave in my truck that was bad straight from day one, boy was i pissed.

Its been almost a week and there is no more fluid loss. I guess I got lucky and it was just a one time thing. Thanks to all that helped out and posted.
